Join us for a festival of 'baking and breaking bread', inspired by the story of Parihaka as described here and here, a heart wrenching and inspiring story in NZ history. On the 5th November 1841, soldiers and placement invaded the Maori settlement of Parihaka. A community committed to non-violent peaceful resistance welcomed them with baskets of 500 loaves of bread which they have baked the day before. The invitation for this festival is to bake bread for sharing and giving away, in the spirit of Parihaka and share each other's stories of forgiveness, peace and reconciliation.
